Trends of the future: Master and career in metallurgy.

Born in Tyumen, a city known for its oil wealth, the choice of specialty was not always simple. Most of my friends went to the oil sector, but my path was different – I chose «Metallurgy ». After the successful completion of the undergraduate at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University of Peter the Great, I understood that the next steps in my career require deeper knowledge and skills, which prompted me to enter the magistracy.

A new approach to learning:

Education in the magistracy of the Advanced Engineering School (PISH) is significantly different from the classical approach that I observed at the bachelor’s degree. In the first place here are not only technical skills, but also «soft skills » – communication skills, teamwork and public speaking. For a short period spent in PISH, I noticed that this approach helps not only in study, but also in practice, which is especially important for an engineer who often has to defend his ideas and projects.

Real-time practice

The scientific and educational center «Severstal-Politech », where I now work as an engineer, has become for me a real laboratory of ideas and solutions. I am engaged in product modeling at ANSYS and ABAQUS, which allows me to conduct virtual tests for strength and impact strength. Here, each decision has its own consequences, and it is important to understand that behind it are not only technologies, but also the people who create them.

Case method and innovation

Our teachers often use a case method, which allows us to analyze real business situations. For example, in the «Market and technological trends of future high-tech industries », we reviewed the strategy of Rolls-Royce, which, instead of selling engines, offers services for their maintenance. This approach opens up new horizons for understanding business and management, which is especially important for future industry leaders.

Internships and communications in the industry

Participation in internships and competitions has also become an integral part of my training. For example, thanks to the Youth Career Forum, I was able to get acquainted with representatives of the largest companies in Russia, such as JSC «Severstal ». These meetings will help me build my career in metallurgy, allowing me to exchange experience and knowledge with industry professionals.

Support and mentoring

PISH teachers – are not only theorists, but also practices that work in large corporations and can transfer their knowledge and experience. This creates a unique atmosphere when each student receives support not only in school, but, importantly, in building a career.

A choice between study and work

In PISH, the ability to combine study and work is welcomed. This allows students not only to put their knowledge into practice, but also to earn, gaining experience that will be useful in the future. For example, I myself work in «Severstal-Politeh » and study in parallel, which gives me the opportunity to study subjects more deeply and immediately put them into practice.

Results and plans for the future

At the moment, I plan to develop my competencies in modeling and programming. It is important to understand that – training is not only about obtaining a diploma, but also about the constant development and work on oneself. I am also going to implement my master’s work, linking it to the development of a mobile application for metallurgical laboratories. This will allow me not only to improve my skills, but also to contribute to the development of the industry.

Thus, graduate training at the Advanced Engineering School of St. Petersburg State Technical University opens the door not only to knowledge, but also to future career opportunities. This is a chance to become part of the rapidly developing world of metallurgy, where every day brings new challenges and prospects.
